Under the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Combating Corruption”, corruption is the illegal use by persons holding a responsible public office, persons authorized to perform public functions, persons equated to them, and officials of their official powers and related opportunities in order to obtain, personally or through intermediaries, material or non-material benefits and advantages for themselves or third parties, as well as the bribery of such persons by providing benefits and advantages.
Anti-corruption policy comprises legal, administrative and organizational measures aimed at reducing corruption risks, increasing public trust in government bodies, and other measures provided by law.
Combating corruption in Kazakhstan has nationwide status. The priority is prevention: removing the causes and conditions that give rise to corrupt practices.
A person who has information about a corruption offence may report it to the management of the relevant government body or to the authorized anti-corruption authority.
A person who reports a corruption offence or otherwise assists in combating corruption is protected by the state and is eligible for incentives in the established manner. Information about such a person is a state secret. A knowingly false report entails liability under the law.
